Monday, August 30

Arrive in Israel

Bruchim HaBaim!

Following your arrival to Ben Gurion Airport in the afternoon on US Airways Flight 796 at 3:15 pm, we will be met and assisted by a Kenes representative. Depart Ben Gurion Airport and drive north via Caesarea to Zichron Yaakov for dinner at Binyamina Winery Dinner followed by check-in to our kibbutz hotel.

Tuesday, August 31

Galilee

Depart early for Yehudiya stream after a plentiful and tasty Israeli breakfast for an exciting hike filled with beautiful views, vibrant wildlife and refreshing water and picnic lunch. After lunch, proceed North to Mt. Bental and Katzrin Winery for a lovely afternoon wine tasting. Then proceed to your hotel for a JHP organizational session before a night out in Tiberias (on own) suggestions will be provided.

Wednesday, September 1

Safed to Tel Aviv

This morning, visit Amuka to visit the grave of Rav Yonatan Ben Uzziel. Proceed to the community of Safed, where you will visit the Joseph Caro and Ha’ Ari synagogues, the most important synagogues in the city and stroll down the famous Artists’ quarter.

Later this afternoon, upon arrival to Tel Aviv, rent bikes for 2 hours and tour Tel Aviv with our guide.

Thursday, September 2

Tel Aviv

This morning, our guide will take us on a tour of Jaffa, filled with artists’ quarters, studios and art galleries. Shops catering for Judaica, archaeology, jewelry and art line its narrow alleys which are named after the signs of the Zodiac.  Tour will also include a visit to the Jaffa Institute Food Distribution Center and the group will help package food for families for Rosh Hashanah.   Following tour, we will have lunch and a JHP organizational planning meeting.

Lunch on own will be proceeded a kayaking and surfing class on the Mediterranean – 3 hours – at the Tel Aviv surfing club. Part of the group can attend the surfing class and part can ride the kayaks.

Tonight, early evening dinner at Na’Lagaat a special dining experience of the pitch-black restaurant with its staff of blind waiters.  (http://www.nalagaat.org.il/home.php).  Night out in Tel Aviv.

Friday, September 3

Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

This morning, visit Nachalat Binyamin, the pedestrian street of the city with musicians, hand made jewelry, and artifacts. On Tuesdays and Fridays the street is home to an exciting crafts fair. Upon arrival to Jerusalem, stop at the Tayelet in Talpiot for a viewpoint of Jerusalem and introduction to the Holy City. Check in and a bit of relaxation before Shabbat.  We will then proceed to a walking tour of Old City before Kabbalat Shabbat service at the Kotel, followed by Shabbat dinner in a private room at Beit Shmuel.

Saturday, September 4

Jerusalem

Enjoy a day at leisure for Shabbat.   Home hosted Shabbat Lunch available.

4 pm optional walking tour of Jerusalem.  Early evening dinner at the hotel.

Tonight walk along Ben Yehuda Street and shop for souvenirs. Also, stroll along Nachalat Shiva, a quaint oasis in the middle of Jerusalem full of cafes, pubs and small galleries.

This evening, take a fascinating tour of the Rabbinical Tunnels (9:40 pm) under the foundations of the city which lead us back in time through the Second Temple era.

Sunday, September 5

Jerusalem

Early morning departure to visit Schneider Children’s Hospital. There, tour the hospital and see the state of the art medical standards of Israel that they provide equally to the different religious and ethnic groups that make up our vibrant country.

We will proceed to INTRA, the Israel National Therapeutic Riding Association and learn about their work with disabled people and people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Late afternoon, visit ammunition hill, a former Jordanian army stronghold, conquered by the Israeli army in the Six Day War, and converted into a national memorial site and museum. See the security checkpoints and security fence for an insight into the political and security dilemmas of Jerusalem and the surrounding area.    JHP organizational session before dinner, on your own.

Monday, September 6

Sderot

Proceed to Sderot. There, meet with a member of the community for a talk and tour of Sderot learning about the experiences of the residents and understanding the methods of coping with the reality of the region during and after the Kasam Bombardments. Stop for a short lunch (on own) on our way back from Sderot.

This afternoon, take a tour with Chef Tali Friedman in Machane Yehuda (4:00 pm). Afterwards, enjoy a 7 course gourmet Glatt Kosher farewell dinner.

Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for our flight home on US Airways Flight 797 at 11:55 pm.
